Born on the same day on opposite ends of the country, Mike Pappas (Vocals, Guitar, Bass,
Piano & Percussion) and Fann (Vocals, Drums, Guitar) are Yell for Help, an American
alternative-pop duo recalling industrial and ambient influences of the past, while putting
their own stamp on the future. Introduced by a mutual friend in the summer of 2012, the
pair have hated each other ever since, but that hasn’t stopped them from making music.
With classic female/male vocal interplay, Fann’s vocals alternate between sweet purrs and
party-starting empowerment, a perfect compliment to Mike’s laid-back, lounge delivery.
The lead single “Love Will Keep Us Together” from their self-titled debut EP, is a genre-bending,
dance-floor banger, with a slick, stylish video to match. With industrial shades of How To
Destroy Angels, paired with the tough-as-nails pop smarts of MIA, the track is at turns
instantly familiar yet staggeringly unique.
“It was one of those times where you have a vision for a song in your head and it comes to
fruition,” Mike said, describing the development process. ”The drum patterns, the music,
the attitude, the stops, the go’s, the build-ups, the pay offs. They were conceptualized
one way or another before recording anything, and that’s pretty special.”
Based in Los Angeles, the EP was recorded in a little studio in Westwood, with additional recording at Fann’s Eagle Rock-home.
