The renowned music site Daytrotter based in Rock Island, Illinois and dubbed by many as the current
generation's John Peel - has announced details of a new
second home in Crouch End, London, UK.
Teaming up with Communion (UK label and live music movement started by
Ben Lovett and Kev Jones) and Ian Grimble and Richard Matthews of 2KHz
at Church Studios, Daytrotter.com -
known for its one-of-a-kind analog recording sessions featuring the
best promising and established artists in the world - will be recording
between 15-20 sessions a month in the UK.
"We're so excited to be working with Sean and the Daytrotter team here
at Communion. We're long time admirers of the ethics and integrity that
they display, and we feel as champions of new artists and musical
discovery it's a perfect fit for us," said Communion's Jones. Added
Lovett, "Daytrotter are the godfathers of alternative music in America,
and we're very happy to be entering into this marriage, as Kev said we
just love everything they do."
The first batch of sessions taped at the new Daytrotter outpost included 4-song sets by Bombay Bicycle Club (the first to be posted on Thursday), Metronomy,
Big Deal, Lucy Rose, Niki & The Dove, Nathaniel Rateliff, Admiral
Fallow, Slow Club, Simone Felice, Bear Driver, Duologue, Jesca Hoop,
Folks, Kyla La Grange, Boxer Rebellion, Tribes and Channel Chairo.
"The opportunity to work with the great men and women of Communion is so thrilling," Daytrotter founder Sean Moeller said.
"We've gotten to know them well over the years, after admiring their
mission from afar and it's pretty evident that there's a real kinship in
our ideas and beliefs in the power of live music. We have been able to
lovingly capture the best bands America has to offer for the last six
years and now having an easy way to bring the greatest of young and old
UK bands to light on the site is kind of as exhilarating as it gets.
We're overjoyed that this is real and we know that music lovers will
think so too."
Daytrotter sessions are typically four songs in length, recorded live
to quarter-inch tape in a matter of a couple hours, with no overdubs.
They are then made available for download and streaming on the site and
its various apps. Since beginning in February of 2006, Daytrotter has
recorded nearly 3000 sessions and given away tens of millions of downloads and
countless many more streams. In addition to studios in Rock Island and
London, Daytrotter sessions are also occasionally taped in San
Francisco, CA, Asheville, NC, Nashville, TN and Montreal.
